A Device to Focus Aspirations

Flowers wilt. Cards may contain well-thought messages and beautiful images, they may be heart-felt, but be rather like the next card. I determined that something different was required for someone enduring a very long stay in a spinal unit. I made this device for Allan Willingham. Each face is different, each is minimal. It is to sit on a shelf. There are tiny cuts made with a fine Japanese pull saw, a circular hole, a brass channel, and small indentations carved into one surface of the Myrtle tower. The pseudo-flat top is vigorously worked. The Device to Focus Aspirations stands on what are now four stainless steel feet but were once inventory in my father’s factory.

Constructed: 27 February 2024 – 03 March 2024.
