Three craft in memory of Andrea Mina

As part of a memorial service for Andrea, after he died in 2014, family, friends, and workmates gathered beside the Yarra River in Melbourne and launched floating offerings. I made three small craft in the spirit of Andrea’s own making using simple and natural materials. I formed hulls from balsawood separated by bamboo skewers holding bark discarded by a tree in our garden and fashioned card sails. One craft was for me, one for Marion, with a smaller one for our son, Cameron, who barely knew Andrea. When launched, they initially messed about with the other offerings floating in the water, then displayed more expected behaviour – Marion’s travelled downstream and after a little dithering mine, of course, followed.

Constructed: 01 April 2014 – 04 April 2014.
